Building Resilience: How to Support Your Struggling Teen Without Taking Over

I still remember the first time I watched my daughter really struggle, it was over social skills/friendship issues. But, it was knowing there was nothing I could do to fix it for her. We were pass the years of arranged "parent play dates."

She was hurting—emotionally, mentally—and no amount of love, logic, or "Mom solutions" could take it away. And let me tell you, that was excruciating to accept.

Because as moms, you want to fix it. Be the problem-solver. The one who find the answers by doing ALL the research and makes everything better.

But here’s what I’ve learned: Our job isn’t to fix them—it’s to stand beside them, help when needed and guide them.

To create a space where they feel safe, so when they’re ready to open up, they know you always have their back. To guide them without controlling them. To let them figure things out without stepping in too soon.

And yes, this one is sooo hard to do but your teen needs to fall down and learn that they can get back up. Because they can!

And honestly? That can feel impossible sometimes.

Right now, more teens than ever are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and destructive coping mechanisms. Substance abuse is on the rise. Mental health resources are stretched thin. There aren’t enough experts to reach every struggling teen.

But here’s the truth: You are the most powerful influence in your teen’s life! 💗

You may not be a therapist, but you're their safe place.

You can be the one to strengthen their emotional resilience, support their mental wellness, and help them get through these challenges in a way that doesn’t leave them feeling alone.

And since I’m always pushing myself to grow too, this week I’m challenging myself to do something new—I’m trying a new cooking class! 👩🏼‍🍳I've been wanting to improve my cooking skills and hey, everyone in the family benefits right.😋

With love and support,

Laurie 🌸
